Ubuntu tends to be a very good OS for those switching from Windows to Linux. Its hardware detection facility is probably the best of all the Linux distros, & it really is pretty much designed for those who wanna bail out on MS. If I didn't have some accessibility considerations going, I'd have done it long ago.
