Well, just my $.02.

a) No1 should get an ms operating system that's under a year old, preferably 2;
b) Having said that, *anything's* better than vista!

So, Gerald, you're right between the proverbial rock & a hard place.
If it were I, & I were looking for something inexpensive & felt I
absolutely had to have Windows, I think I'd bite the bullet & do 7. MS
knows it can't come out w/another bomb like Vista & expect to stay top
dog for long. Otherwise, there are netbooks w/Linux on them, & perhaps
that route would be something worth considering. Provided u don't have
any accessibility considerations & your hardware's pretty standard,
XWindows/GNome gives a great deal of Windows functionality w/o the
ubiquitous malware. MacBooks are also good but quite pricey.

Let us know what u decide.
