Good morning PAS Members, We have had great success at PVCC with Telescope Workshops, and I try to schedule one every month at PVCC and one every month at Bookmans. However, the last few Indoor / Outdoor Astro Events haven't been as successful as their own event. What they started out as, was a way to have some indoor demos, hands on activities like touching meteorites, some really cool demos and other posters, discussions about astronomy, etc... with PAS Members doing the activities, such as doing the Moon Demo, or the Constellation Tubes, as I tend to like to do. In the past we had Chet, Leah, Bob, Tim, and others, do a demo of various things, and show the public stuff they wouldn't normally have seen, if they didn't attend. So, here is my thought, and I want input on this. The Indoor event at the moment, the next one that is scheduled happens to fall on my birthday in September. And I was hoping to have a bunch of people want to do hands on demos inside with Mike and his meteorites, and Me doing demos. With just the two of us, and maybe some cool stuff that Jenny has provided, I don't think it is enough activities. We really could use more PAS members to share something astronomy. Doesn't matter what, but we need signups. So, my original idea, when i started writing this email was, maybe we should make it a Indoor / Outdoor Astro Event that includes the demos inside, the Star Party outside - for which this is a dark sky night, and as an addition, a Telescope Workshop. Because I know many times in the past, we have had people come to the event wanting help with their telescopes, even though I didn't advertise it as that kind of event. I'd like your input on that idea. Add to this event, Telescope Workshop. Also, I'd like PAS Members to get more involved. The event is set from 7:30 to 10pm. It is one of our shorter events at PVCC compared to every other event that goes to 10pm. And those of you who need to leave early, can, because about 9:30, the public leaves, almost every time we have an event at PVCC. So, even though we are scheduled to 10pm, we can star putting things away as soon as the public leaves for the night. So, the input I am requesting is about adding a Telescope Workshop to this event. and then, I'd also like to know who wants to help with a demo indoors. Sign up with your demo by return email and provide me the title of your demo and I will pick a location for you to set up inside the room G-147. I know Jenny will have her students at this event. So, if we can make it more interesting with your demo as part of the evening, that would be awesome. Have a super Thursday! Terri, Event Coordinator for PAS Good friends are like stars.
