Give the person a situational questions to answer that would be typical of
the environment the person would be faced with. How would you do ....., How
would you follow up on.... Why would you do....

What was the toughest situation you have had to deal with and how to you
resolve it... What made it so touch.

Don't ask yes or no questions.

I would also really try to gauge his managment style on level of hands on
managing. No manager will admit to being a micro manager and so get his
real answer can be tough to gauge. There is nothing I hate more though
then a micro manager, one that stands over your shoulder and tells you
what to do and how to do it at a finite level because they have difficulty
relinquishing control and leaving the decisions and effrot to the staff
assigned project/tasks.
