The Goal by Eliyahu Goldratt. I had read Tuning books, attended presentations
by Cary, Jonathan, Anjo, et.al. and had forsaken the BCHR. But, it was not
until I read this book that it really 'clicked'. After reading this book, I
read Cary's and it was so clear.
Oracle Backup & Recovery Handbook (version 7 and 8) has been a constant
companion in my bookshelf. You might not always have RMAN, SQLBacktrack, etc.
to depend on. By learning the core fundamentals and case studies, you can
handle just about everything thrown at you.
Optimizing Oracle Performance is not just an introduction to Method R, but it
contains valuable reference information. I use it often when I am
troubleshooting w/10046 trace files.
And one other non-Oracle book..."Left for Dead" by Beck Weathers to remind me
that there is more to life than databases and personal goals. A haunting, raw
affirmation of life.
