I think he's talking about ORA-471, which is:
SQL> !oerr ora 471
00471, 00000, "DBWR process terminated with error"
// *Cause:  The database writer process died
// *Action: Warm start instance

Which is a catch-all error when PMON dies.  Problem is, it doesn't tell you 
anything.  You need to go look at alert.log and trace files, to see what the 
root cause of the crash was.
