Mladen - I am no longer questioning your statement on pricing, no doubt the
document I found was for 11g. I found the reference 12g article,and it
does state free. And as I recall, you can also get ocfs2 at no charge as
part of OEL now also, so that makes quite a bit of sense. But as others,
including myself, have noted, Oracle's licensing policies are far from
transparent, and even if the otn says free, its entirely possible an oracle
contract may say something else entirely.
But finally, I have another question. Does someone have instructions for
installing Oracle clusterware without installing ASM or ACFS from the
downloads available on OTN? I really do want to experiment with oracle
clusterware.

There are only two ways to officially acquire the software that you claim
to be free.
From the OTN/Technet downloads page or from internal SW delivery from
Oracle which would require a SW/support agreement.
For the base SW which includes GRID control you are always pointed to the
OTN page even if you purchased SW.
If you use the OTN page then you have to say yes to the OTN license
agreement.
You must accept the OTN License Agreement to download this software.

It doesn’t matter whether the SW is free in the end or not, you are not
allowed to use it for real every day purposes. This is what you legally
agreed to be bound by.
Only by having a SW Purchase agreement and/or Support agreement are you
allowed to use the software for those restricted activities listed in the
OTN agreement.

other than as expressly permitted under this Agreement, You must obtain
from Oracle or an Oracle reseller a valid Programs license under a separate

As an Oracle Linux Support customer, how do I obtain Oracle Clusterware?
Oracle Linux Support customers at the Basic and Premier levels can
download the product and deploy it for free as part of their Oracle Linux
Support contract.
For 11gR2 and 12c, the wording changed which is where I think you are
getting confused Mladen, but you still have to get to download it by
agreeing to the OTN License policy which limits your use meaning free does
not mean free for anything you can think of doing with the SW.
