Hi John,
I believe our poster is looking for Enterprise Manager 12c, not Database 12c.  
If anyone is recommending going production with 12c now,  I'd be very 
curious...although we did joke about it this last week! :)

Some of us are going to sit back and let 12c age for a while ... 
 
11.1 was solid ( on Linux )  enough for me in my previous position ( well 
11.1.0.7.x anyhow ) ... maybe or maybe not 12.1 is also "solid enough" ...
 
"Told to recommend it" ??? Yikes!
 
Depending on platform and various other factors ... personally I would 
recommend proceeding "cautiously"  ( as always ) ... test test and more testing 
before deciding on an upgrade path choice.
 
12.1 database side has been long rumored but just now "released" ... database 
side announced pretty much by Larry in summer 2012.  Just now summer 2013 and 
it is "just now" released ... 
 
Probably some interesting things occurring internally at oracle corp ... 
probably ...
