- Comments: "Bird popped up with a couple of other Fox sparrows and the
first thing I noticed was the gray head. Next was the white submoustachial
stripe followed by its bill size. The bill was noticeably smaller than the
other fox sparrows it was with. Although the pictures don’t really show all
of its back it did appear to be gray which extended down to the upper rump
contrasting with a rufous tail. I also noticed the white on the chest was a
little brighter and seemed to have some extra fine streaking in it as well.
Seems to check the boxes for slate-colored however with limited experience
on these sub species it does make me wonder if it’s a hybrid of some sort
so im looking forward to our moderators comments :)
Location was in the brambles across from the SW Roy Rodgers parking lot."

- Comments: "Alerted to this bird’s presence by Trent Bray, who relocated
it earlier in the day (Thanks Trent!). Possibly two, as the habitat seemed
choice for this species. After walking around for ~30 minutes without any
luck, I decided to use some playback. I had one bird pop up in response to
playing a SWSP song. Another smallish sparrow sized bird flew away from the
spot where the SWSP popped up as soon as I started playing tape; I was not
able to lock eyes on it unfortunately, and it did not come back into view.
The bird I saw vocalized once, posed for a few quick pictures, and then
lodged itself back into the depths of the marsh, not to return during my
time there."

- Comments: "Adult male seen with BRBL while driving; perched on opposite
guardrail, excellent but very brief look. Gigantic blackbird, all glossy
purple-black, diagnostic feature was massive shaggy tail, nearly the length
of the bird's body. Bill much heavier than BRBL, but more significant was
that the grackle dwarfed them in body size."

- Comments: "Heard one and saw one, so likely two. Different sounding
vocalization than the more expected "Audubon's" subspecies. A little less
flat and poppy, and instead thicker/deeper sounding. The bird I saw was a
first winter individual, with a white throat that wrapped around into the
auriculars. I believe a semblance of a supercilium was starting to form as
well."
