- Comments: "Interesting situation. About 10 of these were in the river in
a little cove with some CANG, were seen well and were clearly minima. Then
a massive group of white-cheeked flushed from the next cove west and flew
past me. Calls from the Cackling Geese all sounded like minima and I saw
quite a few obvious minima in this flock as well with glossy dark chests
and richly colored overall appearance. I didn't see any clear size
variation in the CACG as they were flying though the difference between
minima and Tav is usually apparent in flight. The light wasn't the best and
I cannot swear the the identity of all of the roughly 400 CACG and I could
not ID any definite Tavs. I left the others as just CANG but I wonder if a
large flock of minima got off track from the Willamette."

the well developed white trailing edge to the secondaries and largely

2nd cycle. LBBG is surprisingly slow to mature for a gull of its size and
I'd bet heavily that its 3rd not second. That said, it doesn't matter much
and "aging" immature large gulls once all juvenile feathers have been
replaced is largely a hysterical exercise in false precision. P9-10 still
growing unsurprisingly. Look hard for the adult but it wasn't present
during the short time we were there"

Turned corner to find it, luckily it hadn’t gone far. But then it went
around a trunk and as I looked for it I saw a collared dove. The sapsucker
flew to a lower perch on other side of street, allowed me to snap a couple

chunky, short-tailed, medium to large, brownish finch with a strong facial
pattern and streaked white underparts. The bird had olive-toned,
medium-brown upperparts with diffuse dark brown vertical streaks. The
bird's brown facial pattern was offset by a diffuse, but fairly-distinct
white supercilium and a diffuse, white malar. The bill was heavy, dark, and
triangular, the culmen was slightly curved. There was no eyering. The
bird's chest was white with blurry brownish streaks. The undertail coverts
were white. Unfortunately, the bird flew from the ground where it was
foraging into dense hawthorn shrubs before I could get photos."

- Comments: "Tom Myers discovered at least one at this location yesterday
evening. Continuing at end of asphalt near Columbia Commerce Center sign.
I originally found Tom's bird and then another flew in. They vocalized to
each other for a few seconds, then settled down and foraged together. One
bird was quite pale,. Likely an adult male, but had me wondering about a
potential McKay's for a bit. I believe the scapular pattern showing mostly
black is diagnostic, but there is a lot of white in the primary coverts and
the rump is whitish and lower back has a faint rusty wash, but no black
markings. Interesting bird anyway. Past the end of the asphalt is private
property and enforced."

- Comments: "Continuing along ditch running west of gate, about 100 ft west
of the gate. Recognizing that canescens Bell's and Sagebrush sparrows are
very difficult to differentiate in practice (and some literature argues
that there can be enough overlap in characteristics in individual birds to
make distinguishing the two species virtually impossible in some cases), I
nevertheless agree with previous reports that this bird shows more
characteristics typically associated with Sagebrush Sparrow, including
limited but distinct streaking on the back, pronounced pale edge on the
tail, thin malar marking, etc. The fact that these features are found in
combination is helpful; but it is compounded by the fact that eBird shows
no records of a canescens Bell's Sparrow north of about San Francisco (and
almost all northern records are much to the east). All in all, Sagebrush
seems the stronger ID."

- Comments: "Originally reported by Nick who found pictures of this bird
posted on a Facebook page. At dusk I searched the McDonald's that it had
been photographed at a few hours earlier and was unable to find it, until I
looked up into the elm just in front of the big golden arches sign, where I
saw a large jet black bird with a large paddle shaped tail. It gave an
alarm "Chuck" and moved further to the tree out of sight. I was unable to
see much detail, but the obvious shape of the tail and overall size should
eliminate all other possible birds, certainly blackbirds and COGR.
The bird was photographed eating French fries from the parking strip, and
my presumption is it will be there in the days to come."
