my hand for about 10 minutes. Very tiny compared to the common ANHU usually
seen and nesting in my vicinity. Rich buff wash on undersides except on
throat; completely bright green uppersides with no rufous; slight rufous at
base of 2 (?) outer tail feathers only; shortish bill; white post-ocular
spot; throat streaked with dark stripes and no iridescence. She flew off
after that time, and left the area."

- Comments: "Worn 2nd calendar year (at end of 1st cycle). Size of average
California Gull with short, compact body, relatively small/thin bill, small
comparatively rounded head, and familiar Thayer's-like eye position and
facial expression. Bill base partially paling as is typical at this age.
Traces of retained dark pigment in juvenile primaries confined mostly to
outer webs, remnant dark pigment in juvenile secondaries indicating they
were fairly dark when fresh, and dark tail with extensive barring at the
feather bases so tail would have appeared virtually dark-banded when fresh."

reported. Calling 'che-bek' a lot for me on return. Didn't hear on way
downstream. No calls closer to the highway where first found.
***But possibly a second bird that was a quarter mile further downstream
than the new position. I thought I heard one 'che-bek', and then an Empid
showed up above me making 'whit' calls that were similar to Least
recordings, but also maybe a Hammond's. The bird was backlit but looked
very short tailed and short primaried - runt like really. I thought this
was the bird until a moment later I encountered it in the other spot
calling repeatedly. So not sure if two birds, the same bird but it moved
quickly (unlikely) or a misidentified Hammond's."

- Comments: "singing male off bike trail NW of Owasso bike bridge in
Eugene. Half way between bridge and Copping St.
Bird was first found by Rich Hoyer about 10 a.m. I arrived at 1230. One
other birder there said a few folks had tried unsuccessfully earlier. I
first heard the
bird singing from within a large oak about 1245. Got a couple of brief but
diagnostic looks as the bird sand regularly for the next 20 minutes. Very
hard to see in the canopy. It moved about to adjacent trees but it seemed
centered on the oak. I stayed until 1345 but no further sightings or songs
heard. It was likely still nearby but became less active and vocal as the
mid-day heat picked up.
Warbler boldly striped in black and white above and below. More so below
than Black-throated Gray Warbler. Striped crown eliminates Blackpoll.
Striped back and lack of yellow spot in front of eye elimiates
Black-throated
Gray Warbler. Diagnostic song heard multiple times and compared in real
time to a recording."
