- Comments: "At first I misidentified a group of 12 Wood Ducks that
included 2 female Mandarin Ducks in it! After reviewing my pictures on the
big computer I discovered that two of them were definitely Mandarin
Females. The beaks did not have the white line at the base like a f. Wood
Duck, the eye ring was not tear drop shaped, but a thin circular line that
extended clear to the back of her head, and the breast and side colors and
distribution were clearly Mandarin. Her back is a rich brown solid color
with prominent white patches showing in the wing tips. I saw two Mandarin
Females but only got a pic of one. The mother Wood Duck had 6 newly hatched
babies following her. That was the only ducklings I observed, none with
the Mandarins. I will post pics on the Cornell site to verify this sighting"

light] I watched this bird at abpit 20-30 yards away as it remained in a
weedy, overgrown upland and roadside small field with some dead limbs
laying around. It perched on the limbs and on the broken down fence. I

small field is at the corner, intersection of the Wood River Wetlands
