- Comments: "I've been seeing these Northern Bobwhites for about three
weeks. They come around before it gets too hot and in the evening out of
the rolling hills covered with fallow fields. There are two breeding pairs
that I think are nesting a few hundred feet behind my home. They enjoy the
water from my soaker hose and the bird food that falls from my feeders.
The feeders are filled with nyjer, white proso millet, cracked corn, black
oil sunflower seeds, red millet, and a small amount of wheat."

- Comments: "So exciting! At dusk tonight, a male visited my western
columbine 4 times over the span of about 2 minutes while I sat on the front
steps WhatsApping with my mom- she was able to see him via WhatsApp! I
waited for an hour for him to return- no dice. I'll be out at first light
tomorrow. If he turns out to be a 2-minute wonder, I'll feel like the
luckiest person alive to have been sitting there silently when he happened
by. Fully adult male, striated pink-rose gorget, absurdly short tail,
unmistakable from 8 feet away. Interestingly, wings nearly silent, no
vocalizations. Entirely possible he knew that 2 possessive male HB- an
Anna's and a rufous- were in the area defending the feeder that he
completely ignored on his merry way through the yard even though he could
not have missed its presence. He also attempted to feed on Erysimum and
Plectritis flowers, but didn't think much of them. LOVED the columbine,
though."

Silhouetted flight pics showing the significantly short but thicker bill
are the only photos that can confirm id. Most of time he was behind the
hill a mile away. When observed on the ground had bold facial stripes.
Subspecies id was made by the lack of the white rump exhibited by all other
subspecies and expectation of any other ssp is very low."

shorebird. Green-yellow legs, prominent eyering, white speckled gray
plumage.
Out in the open in the shallow pond a short way from the parking spot west
of 5th off of Ave. G. This may be the continuing bird - I'm not sure of
this pond is considered Ave. G & H pond lumped with the group to the east.
Most of the walk was on the interpretive trail and I've been using this
access point for that hotspot if I walk to the river."

Moorhem found the second individual. Walked up to large pond and began
scanning the grassy banks. After a few minutes of this a bird flushed from
15ft, making peet-weet calls and displaying a fanned black-and-white barred
tail. When it landed I was able to get a closer look at plumage, which was
dark brownish above and lighter below, streaky neck and white eye ring also
visible. Bill midsized and legs yellow, and occasionally in good lighting
could make out white speckling on the brown top. Second individual noticed
nearby, closer to the road and foraging near a downed log. Same plumage
characteristics as previously described and was able to get better visuals
on the speckled back."

streaky chest, brownish wing and tail, bill flesh colored at base, darker
near tip, large white eye ring very obvious, yellowish legs. Seen along
grassy area beyond fence at back of large pond. First seen in the water
near grassy edge, then seen in grass near fallen logs. May have flown to
small pond beyond edge of large pond; didn’t see it fly but saw the upper
body of a light colored bird stretch up along near edge. May or may not
have been SOSA. Just found bird again in the back pond near right end to
right of large log that is perpendicular to first pond. What I thought was
the single SOSA was actually 2 in the back pond. Second one was to the
right of the log but really close to it along the back edge. At least one
bird still there when I stopped again at 4 pm on my way out."

- Comments: "Photos added; Heard shorebird calls when pair of Mallards
flushed out of boggy area near road. At first I thought that I'd be looking
at a Spotted Sandpiper when I saw it beginning to land. Immediately saw the
bold white eyering and large eye. It had longer legs than a Spotted, and
while it did bob occasionally, it was quite still initially, and then when
it did move, its bobbing was rather occasional. It did not hold its body
prone during foraging, but came upright after each "get" or peck off the
water surface. It had greenish yellow legs, and greenish yellow base to its
bill. The tip of the bill was a bit dusky in color. It was very fine
pointed. Its back and wings were brownish with some very small specks of
white. Its lower breast to vent was very white. Its chin to very upper
breast had some very fine grayish colored streaking, The streaking was
present in the nape, crown and facial areas. It had a dark colored large
for its size, eye. The nearest or closest shorebirds in appearance would be
Spotted Sandpiper and Lesser Yellowlegs. The Lesser Yellowlegs has bright
yellow legs and are longer legged. The LEYE does not have the bold eyering,
nor the large eye. The behavior alone would eliminate the Spotted
Sandpiper, but this SOSA was taller, and lacked spotting on upper breast.
The habitat that this Solitary Sandpiper was found in would be the expected
environment with a boggy scene. The area is surrounded by conifers and
aspens, and adjacent to an open meadow. Emmergent grasses were about a foot
above the water surface and provided very good cover. This area has about
the same boggy conditions every spring. It will be interesting to visit
this site again in the future around this date."
