- Comments: "(Rare): “unreported”: in large flock of Snow Geese and also
Cacklers, in field to west of Reeder Rd and just north of Observation
shelter : continuing bird, as found and photoed recently by Colby N (also
Philip Kline and Owen S), so long as not determined hybrid, Ross’s is a new
Life Bird for Ezra! and Oregon State Year Bird for Caleb and county bird
for Courtney. Digiscope photo of top of head and eyeball only of sleeping
bird, “top of head and eyeball only of dissected bird after we caught it”
(haha — joke) at approx center of photo just to left of Cackling Goose.
First found today by Caleb goose machine, who had faith/confidence that he
could find a Ross’s in this mass of geese partially hidden by tall field
stubble, though Courtney was giving up, all of sudden, Caleb saw Ross’s at
back edge of group, white goose size of Cacklers smaller than Snow, with
smaller triangle light-bluish/tan-based bill in cute face, and then it
waddled off left. This would have been Caleb’s biggest miss for the Oregon
Year (now at 347 now got the ROGO). — Then Ezra arrived and we borrowed him
for the rainy day from his dad and brother, and at 11:12am Ezra refound the
Ross’s! yay, refound his own Life Bird, spotted it now sleeping at front
(nearest us) of pack, noted its scruffy top of head (grayish/blackish
coloring at top).” — “I said repeatedly to you that if you just believe you
can do it and you keep looking at the geese then you are much more likely
to find it.” — “Oh you said more than that.” — “Then you WILL find it, are
you happy?” — “Am I happy?” — “I was trying to make myself sound a little
more reasonable but you wouldn’t let me.” “You’re in one of your modes
where you put everything on the checklist.” — “I love you.”"

and I couldn't see the bird. I posted the recording to iNaturalist and Matt
Hunter, Oregon ebird reviewer, identified it as Red-shouldered and not a
jay imitation. If I had known it was a darn Red-shouldered, I would've
