and dark throat. Scope views before the farmer drove through the flock with
a tractor and flushed them.
Kate's notes: Continuing. Similar in size to cackling geese. Colder body
overall, scaly appearance to body feathers. Head and back of neck white
with crisp demarcation between darker front and white back. Paler bill than
cackling geese nearby. All birds in the field flushed by sprayer before
satisfying, proper study of the bird could be completed. Will have to
return if the bird sticks on a calmer day."

- Comments: "I did not see this bird, but heard it very well. Mixed in
with the pipit flock, but heard flying with 3-5 pipits nearby for 7-8
seconds, which made for a great comparison. The longspur "chortle/rattle"
was not as "weak/thin" as the pipits, slightly lower in pitch. I have
heard this species before and recognized it as such immediately. It was
close enough to hear well."
