I note your comments below about reading values from .ecasoundrc but
I'm not sure if we are meant to do something from those comments or
what.
I also am afraid I need to ask for either peoples help or pointers to
documentation that can explain exactly the uses/thinking behind
mastering mode and mixdown mode. It is probably a topic covered in
other software packages for doing recording and editting of sound
files but I am not at all clear on the topic. I believe I've covered
what the manpage and website says on the topic but it still isn't
clear to me. Mixdown seems to be some sort of intermediary step to
preparing a song/tune and master mode is some type of finalization
step but that's all I can glean in general and don't have any real
understanding in specifics except for the short example on the
website.
Once again thank you very much Joel! I am anxious to play with this
all now.

I seem to recall our policy was to be independent of
configuring Nama via ecasoundrc. However, as we call
ecasound, it loads settings from $HOME/.ecasound/ecasoundrc.
(It is possible to start ecasound with the -R flag to
inhibit reading ecasoundrc.)
Our policy has been to specify ecasound global arguments in
Setup.ecs where necessary.
Our overall intention is to have all parameters that can
change sound of a project stored within that project.
Those are my considerations.
