VENUE NEWS
1. THE YREKA YMCA IS CLOSED TO PICKLEBALL APRIL 10-14
(Monday-Friday next week), so if the weather is good, now is the time to head
outside.
2. DONATE EXTRA PADDLES you are not using to the Club, so we can
make them available (in storage units at both venues) for new people who are
trying out the sport. Those wooden paddles are embarrassing!
3. NEW SWIFT NETS are in use at the Y. If you do not know how to
set them up. Make sure to learn from someone who does.
4. NEW STORAGE UNITS: We have a new storage unit at the Y. If
you are the first one to come in, or the last one to to leave, the key to the
storage unit is being held by the person at the front desk. The storage unit is
to hold the three best nets, extra balls, extra paddles, membership forms &
p-ball related paperwork. We are also working on a new storage unit for the
Montague courts.
5. NEW PEOPLE – I have noticed new people playing almost every
time I have played in the last couple of weeks. Let’s all work hard to make
them feel welcome and informed.
6. FREE SKILLS & DRILLS 30 MINUTE CLINIC on Thursday from
8:45-9:15AM have been well attended and will most likely be held at the Y for
most of April (except April 13th), but we may be moving outside to the Montague
courts sometime soon, depending on the weather. Keep track & Sign in on
www.playtimescheduler.com<http://www.playtimescheduler.com> if you can.
UPCOMING EVENT
1. APRIL 29TH SCRAMBLE and/or casual CLINIC at the Y, is possible, but not
guaranteed. The SVPC leadership is meeting on Tuesday April 18th, and will need
to make a final decision on whether to offer a Scramble and/or Clinic or
nothing by April 18th, so please let Pete know ASAP, if you would like attend a
Scramble ($10 or $20 if you want to get a club membership at the same time)
and/ or Free Clinic ( 30 minute, from 8:15-45 AM) if offered.
REPEATED INFO BELOW
GENERAL INFO
· LIMITED SPACE – When should I play?
o While there is bad weather, space will be limited at the Y, so here are a
few tips to avoid the crowds. Crowds can be fun, but it you don’t like to wait
for available court space, here are some tips.
§ Avoid Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from 9-11 AM at the Y. When there is bad
weather, these are the most crowded times to play. Once the weather gets good,
this will be true of the Montague courts.
§ Play at these times (check
www.playtimescheduler.com<http://www.playtimescheduler.com> )
· If you are an advance player – M-F at 7-9 AM is typically not crowded –
in fact check PTS to make sure there are enough players to play.
· If you are a Beginning-Int. player – M-F at 7-9 AM is a great time to
play with three other Beg.-Int. players. The advanced players rarely use more
than 1-2 courts. So, there is space for another court. So, invite 3 friends and
play where the Advanced Players are not playing. DO NOT COME AND EXPECT TO PLAY
WITH THE ADVANCED PLAYER, unless your play level is approaching 3.5.
· M, W & F from 9-11 AM is an all-play time, and is generally less
crowded than Tu, Th & Sat.
· Sunday from 10:00-4:00 PM is an all-play time at the Y, but 1/3 of the
court must be left open at all times.
§ When weather gets better, you might consider playing at the Y, to avoid the
crowds at the Montague courts from 9-11 AM on T, Th & Sat.
