You know, I've been wracking my brain for that "basic basic" PPT website
that might help you get started, but I can't really think of one. I know
there are a lot of books that would be appropriate, but I don't know how
helpful they would be for you, Rex. Brian Reilly's "Create PowerPoint in a
Weekend" or the IDG "PowerPoint for Dummies" would both be good beginnings
if a book would be appropriate.

Oh, duh. I typed PowerPoint Getting Started into Google and the following
site popped up.
http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/agronomy/TECHSPT/tutorials/pwrpoint/Basics/pwrpnt_b
asics01.htm Since it mentions Windows 95, it's probably a bit old, but the
main gist should be the same. Worth a try, anyway. This one looks promising
as well. http://homepage.cs.uri.edu/tutorials/csc101/powerpoint/ppt.html
http://www.techweb.ecisd.net/pdf/ppstart.pdf is Mac oriented, but it covers
the basics which are applicable to the PC version also (note that last link
pulls up a PDF file).
http://www.bris.ac.uk/is/selfhelp/documentation/ppt97-i1/ppt97-i1.htm and
http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/seminars/ppt2000/starting-create.html also
showed up on the first page of the Google search, and they both look useful
as well.

There is a microsoft powerpoint newsgroup that can be accessed through
http://groups.google.com (type in microsoft.public.powerpoint ) or you can
access it through the MS web interface if you prefer.
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=Prod_Office&sLCI
D=US&newsgroup=microsoft.public.powerpoint I can give you a link to access
it through a newsreader if that's easier for you, just let me know.

You're welcome to ask any question--even the most basic ones--in the PPT
group. It's a very friendly bunch of people, a true community! (And there's
only the one group--it's not split into PowerPoint VBA, PowerPoint
Publishing, etc., as many of the MS groups are.) We operate on the
philosophy that the only dumb question is the one unasked.

Hopefully some of that will give you some resources when you're ready to
begin with PPT.
