Well, you can also look at it this way; MS has been using something like the 24 month cycle where possible for as long as I've been doing this anyway. The longest release cycles I've seen have been for the BackOffice side. Check out this timeline: Windows 3.0 - 1992 Windows 3.1 - 1993 Windows For Workgroups 3.0 - 1992 Windows For Workgroups 3.11 - 1993-4 Windows NT 3.1 - 1992 Windows NT 3.5 - 1993 Windows NT 3.51 - 1994 Windows 95 - Aug, 1995 Windows Nt 4.0 - 1996 Windows 98 - 1998 Windows ME - Late 1999 Windows 2000 - 2000 Windows XP - 2002 Office, ye say? Office 95 - 1995 Office 97 - 1997 Office 2000 - 2000 Office XP 2002 So XP anything is 1 year old and through half its normal life cycle. We're about average in roll up to this version in terms of total count. So next year the next version of both come out and you'll be two behind, where the upgrade path is tougher and you get dejected so you say to hell with it and buy a new machine that comes with it installed anyway. (That was a Chicago one-breathe sentence. I thought you'd all enjoy it.<g>) Greg Chapman http://www.mousetrax.com "Counting in binary is as easy as 01, 10, 11!
