In one of my applications I use a list box with text boxes at the top of the columns. The text boxes act as filters so as I type the sql retrieving the data is altered and the list changes. Over a couple of thousand records there is neglible time in repainting the listbox. This means I can have sort of multiple criteria like all records begining with M in the name field over a date range referencing a specific printer. Is that something like what you are looking for?
