Oh my, I am so so sorry to hear about Karen. Tony, I feel so bad for you, it's
just been one thing after another hasn't it? You guys will be in my thoughts
and prayers. Lung cancer is something that just scares the heck out of me, I
hope I didn't wait too late to quit smoking. I smoked for 41 years, and that's
way way too long. Those of you who still spoke, please quit. I know I still
smoke electronic cigarettes, but I don't think they're quite as bad for you as
regular ones, as I do feel better. I know I need to quit those two, but just
can't seem to do it. Sorry to ramble. Lucy Edmonds, class of 73

Tony and Vickie, I don’t know what to say, as this is really difficult for me.
Please know, however, Karen and Tony will be with me in my prayers.
Please Lord, keep Karen here for Tony, and of course for her own life.
God Bless,
Marcia

Subject: [msb-alumni] Prayers Needed

Well I finally get to spill the beans about Tony. He’s been telling me not
to tell this list, and I’m not sure why, because prayers have been needed for
quite some time. Tony is healing still from his broken leg, and is now using
a walking cane instead of the walker. But the news is not about Tony but his
girl friend, or fiancé`e really, for about 17 years, Karen. Karen is older
than Tony, by about 15 years. Recently, she has been diagnosed with lung
cancer, as an amniotic carcinoma exists in the lower lobe of the right lung.,
measuring 2.6 by 1.8 centimeters. She has visited a surgical oncologist, who
is reluctant to perform surgery to remove the tumor, since Karen also has
COPD or emphysema, which the doctor described, is the same thing. He’s afraid
she’ll lose her quality of life, having to live on oxygen, etc. if he removes
the whole lobe. She has a lot of scarring from the COPD. So, there is more
to be known. In the PET test completed back in May, her lymph nodes in the
same area of the lung, showed to be enlarged. They didn’t light up, like the
tumor did, but the surgeon is concerned and therefore, this Wednesday, she
will undergo a procedure where they will put a tube down the windpipe through
her nose, to examine the lymph nodes, and remove them, if they appear to be
cancerous as well. So, that’s why Tony has released my silence allowing me
to ask for prayers on Wednesday when this procedure is being done. If all
goes well, it will be a one day affair, and she’ll be home Wednesday evening
around 6. They claim that the kind of cancer she has is not the kind that
moves around the body, but he told her if nothing is done, being no chemo or
radiation, she will die within 18 months. And, of course, the 20 doctors
reviewing her case, have only given her those options, chemo, radiation, or
surgery. No immune therapy, or vitamin C therapy, etc. like they do for
people out here in Arizona. So, I guess prayer is the only option, as far as
I’m concerned. So, please pray, even if you’re not a Christian, please pray.
Anyone who knows Tony, knows that Karen is his life, not just his life’s
partner. Of course, I’ll let you know more as I know it. I didn’t find out
until a couple of weeks ago, myself.
Vickie Rolison

May God bless you now, and evermore!
