Tel Thanks, would love a pic or two. Peter PS Why am I not surprised you didn't buy an off the shelf jobbie? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry Lane" <tel@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <modeleng@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, October 17, 2004 9:07 PM Subject: [modeleng] Re: Melting Down - Smelting I've recenjtly built two furnaces Peter, one is based on a section of 12" diameter water heater barrel - 15" high with a 2 1/2" lining of castable refractory, it works real well on charcoal and (at a pinch) wood chips. The second is based on a 5lb gas bottle - similar construction but with the 'blow hole' a bit higher up for gas firing - haven't really fired it yet, other than to cure the refractory & 'tune' the gas burner. For reclaming scrap and some aluminium work I still use the forge (wheel rim welded to a 12 gal drum with air system underneath) - air supply for both solid fuel furnaces, is an Electrolux vacuum cleaner with the hgose attached to the 'blow side' I'll send you a pic or two if you like ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter J.
