I believe Christian's plan was to merge the feature/merge_mg_changes branch
into feature/ueb_update and take it from there.
I am ready to do this, but am running into some difficulties with compiling
pattern.c. See:

Oops, missed this e-mail. I agree regarding the unmerged commits. Too bad you
have no time this week -- I do have time now. You just can't win. Anyway, I'll
have a look at the PR.
Another concern I have is that backtranslation is broken but we don't catch it
because of limited unit tests. Do you or Mike have any thoughts on that?
