I use a Delkin eFilm Hi-Speed USB 2.0 - DDREADER 38.

Yes, in Mac OS X, open the application "Image Capture" and in its
Preferences select what you want it to do when it detects a device
plugged in. I have selected, "When a camera is connected, open: No
application"
