Hmm. Maybe I?ll load up the old R8 with some slide film and take pictures of my digital shots on the monitor. Those will last almost forever. I sometimes wonder if I'll be able to do the same for a nearly 40 year old digital image! And 40 years later you would still be able to scan those slides with then latest technology! And our digital files (or formats) if left alone will probably be junk in 40 years :-( David, I hope all turns out OK for you. Miha 2009/2/5 Guilherme Malheiro <malheiro@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Hi Philippe Next week I will start backing up all my files on blue ray. Let's see what happens!:_) Regards Guilherme -------------------------------------------------- From: "Philippe AMARD" <philippe.amard@xxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2009 9:36 PM To: <leicareflex@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [LRflex] Re: Breathing easier, now. I now have my files on three separate HDs and on two platforms, progressively in three formats (RAW, DNG and JPEG) and I'm starting on the DVDs tomorrow, time permitting. 40 years from now? My kids will have dumped all my junk for sure, which makes me laugh sometimes. Next will be transfering all the video tapes I shot when they were younger - this they might keep. But it can be done! Personally, I would be fearful, of having just two... even more fearful of having one of them a hard-drive, for they hold a whole LOT of photos... and if it dies, you could lose years worth of photos! At least with DVDs, you only lose two to three hundred. As you might imagine, I am now in the process of reading all my old discs and checking to see if they're OK. So far, so good. :-) There's a lot to be said, for old negatives, kept in a dark, dry place! Why, just 10 months ago, I had a lovely 16x20" print made from a 1973 Agfachrome.
