You shouldn't, provided that after you have calibrated the map, you 
do a 'save map'.
Subsequently, you can check whether the map has been calibrated 
correctly: open the folder where the map resides. There will be 
another folder whose naam ends in .kismap, containing a png file (the 
map image) and a waypoints.plist. You can open the latter with any 
text editor or with a property list editor. If you do so, you will 
find a set of objects there, containing info on your GPS calibration 
coordinates and on the pixel locations these GPS coordinates 
correspond to.

If this whole story holds, and yet you need to recalibrate the map 
every time, I would verify that you have the most recent version of 
the program, as this particular problem has been an issue with some 
earlier versions.
