I've just come across this site. http://uk.ask.com/wiki/List_of_airports_in_IrelandI was cross checking on Powerscourt, that I'd managed to locate in GE and in the FSX Ireland photoscenery. Despite being a grass strip, with no evidence of hangars, it was the basis of an advert for private jet travel. Perhaps not surprisingly, it was closed down a few years ago, after a GA double fatality.
Stranger yet, it was owned by Mr Slazenger, of sports goods fame. After he and his wife were held up by an armed gang, in the drive, returning from a "social evening", they decided it was safer in the IOM and moved to Ramsey. They died around 2000 and are interred back at Powerscourt.
Funny old world, innit! Just for FSX use I may reopen the strip. Gerry Winskill On 20/08/2011 03:30, Fossil wrote:
I've now combined the X8-- range to encompass all Irish airports and provisionally added codes for the airfields on the Irish page. I have also added a link to the page from my UK Catalogue but have stressed the work is embryonic. Apart from the airfields published by the IAA (only licensed sites) and for which position data is accurate I have categorised the rest as C for now. As I trawl through the maps and photos here I will fine tune locations so all should eventually have full Lat/Long values. Note the absence of private strips in the listing. I hope to start adding these when I get the historical data more complete. bones bones@xxxxxxx http://woodair.net -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gerry Winskill Sent: 19 August 2011 21:12 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: Glassonby Airfield Right. Saved the link and I'll try to find a few on GE, in the morning. I may have to give the non ICAO airfields a pseudo code again so I willusethe X8-- series currently set aside for Northern Ireland as there will be plenty of spares in this block. bones bones@xxxxxxx http://woodair.net -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gerry Winskill Sent: 18 August 2011 19:07 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: Glassonby Airfield Via the link I've just given I've unearthed 45 grass strips. Next comes a trip to GE, to see how many still exist. Gerry Winskill
