the trouble is that large bodies do not understand why jaws cannot see a tif file, and many I know are very upset and say they cannot afford expensive equipment, I am lucky since I aalways knew that some material I had to scan,i.e faded carbon copies needed something really good. However I did once get a man from my local council up to my house to show him exactly why Jaws cannot read a photo of print . IIt was a waste of time, he kept tapping on the screen saying"look the print is there it must be your dodgey softwear that Jaws thing, I did it more for others but pdf files are here to stay and I would say get the best you can buy, incidentally the last update of my OCR had to have 64 bit, that applies to both Kirzweil and open book since windows7. I am not sure about omnipage however but if it has 2 versions there must be one that does things the other cannot I assume dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: Adrian Spratt To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2010 6:41 PM Subject: RE: jaws and adobe reader problem need help Pro. Glad you got me to clarify. I've been racing today, but if you or anyone is interested, I can look into where I bought it. A fellow lister alerted me when it was posted on Blind Bargains last year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Cy Selfridge Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2010 12:18 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: jaws and adobe reader problem need help Adrian, Was that Omni Page or Omni Page Pro? I bought my copy, version 17, for $99. that price was advertised as a promotion, but the promotion seemed to go on so long that I think it became the actual price. It doesn't provide everything the two reading systems you mention do, but it's an affordable and simple-to-use application for converting PDF image files to a variety of formats. It also gets exceptional ratings for accuracy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Farfar Carlson Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2010 9:50 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: jaws and adobe reader problem need help Andy, You're looking at a scanned image. Your sighted coworkers can see this as a pure graphical image. Happens to me several times a month. There is nothing wrong with JAWS and nothing wrong with Adobe. You need to use an OCR program like Openbook or Kurzweil to recognize the text on the document and convert to a text or Word file. Many on this list will have suggestions for other OCR converters, if you don't have these.
