Good thought; on the inspiron series there are 3 buttons at the top right of the keyboard. They are very wide and thin, and separated from other buttons into their own group of 3. The left-hand one of these is the mute button, while the middle and right are volume down and up respectively. Unlike other systems, pressing one of the volume buttons does not unmute an inspiron, so you'll need to play with the mute button, and turn up the volume in case it's too low. hth, Chip ------------------------------ Chip Orange Database Administrator Florida Public Service Commission Chip.Orange@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (850) 413-6314 (Any opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Florida Public Service Commission.) ________________________________ From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Anthony P Schnurr Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 3:15 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Silent Laptop Larry, If you are getting no sounds including sound effects from your laptop and a sighted person verifies that JAWS is still running, it is possible that you inadvertently muted your sound card. I found out the hard way that my laptop has a dedicated mute button. You may want to have a sighted person check your special function keys for a mute key and show you where it is. If there is none, have them open your system tray, double click the volume icon and see if mute is checked. If so that is your problem. Uncheck it. Regards. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running Jaws 8 and windows-XP. A sighted colleague told me that I had the desktop and all of the windows functionality however, I get absolutely no sound not even Narrator or Windows load sound. Any ideas how to make this thing talk?
