Narrator is also on the programs menu under accessories, so I suggested that
he just create shortcut to the program from the shortcut that is already
there.

Why not just create a desktop shortcut pointing to the narrator
executable?
It's in the windows system directory, which in xp is "system32," so a
shortcut's target would look like this.
c:\windows\system32\narrator.exe
Note, if punctuation is below "most", you might want to set it there
to read this message.
