Hi David,

I downloaded and installed Real Player 11.1.1 However, i still get the same result that Gerald gets; that is, no imbedded audio playing in IE 8, but it plays fine in Firefox.

   Regards,

   Don

Hi David,

Thanks for doing such a great job on your IE 8 guide. However, you state that you need Real Player 11 installed in order to play embedded audio. One of the reasons I uninstalled IE 8 and reverted to IE 7 was that IE 8 would not, in fact play embedded audio, a problem I reported to MS last September when I was beta testing it. The problem has not apparently been resolved, as far as I know. If you want to verify this for yourself, visit the web page below using IE 8. The embedded Real Player audio menu prompts should start playing automatically if IE 8 is working properly. If all you hear is silence (except for JAWS), then the problem is still outstanding.

Hi Don,

concerning the start up problem, I've seen it suggested that this occurs because an add-on of some type doesn't close down correctly when internet explorer closes. You can check whether it might be related to add-ons by trying internet explorer without add-ons to check whether there's still a problem. You can find internet explorer without add-ons in all programs, accessories, system tools, internet explorer (no add-ons).

If internet explorer without add-ons doesn't have the problem, then in the normal version of internet explorer you could check to see what add-on toobars and extensions are being used: open manage add-ons from the tools menu, and see what's in the list view. If there's something you're not using, you could try disabling it from its context menu.

David.
