Hi, Justin.

Welcome to the list. I hope college is going well.

My good friend, G.W. Cox, just sent you a link to a page that I'm sure will be
useful in the long run. However, you don't detail the specific problems you're
experiencing. Also, you should tell the list which operating system you're
using -- XP, Home, Vista, etc. What version of JAWS? Which applications are
giving you trouble? The more specific you can be, the more helpful various
people on this list can be to you.

For the time being, I'll copy below instructions that G.W. Cox posted earlier.
I'm making a wild guess that you're using Windows XP. If not, write back.
Otherwise, I suggest you make these recommended changes, see what differences
they make, and then come back to the list with all outstanding difficulties.
You will find the people here generous and eager to get you on the right track.

Here goes with those recommended settings:

You might want to check your display settings. What follows are some
recommendations, though I think these may vary.

1. minimize all applications (windows key+m)

2. Unselect the item if it's checked (control+spacebar)

3. Activate the context menu (windows application key)
note: this is the key to the left of the right control key on standard windows
keyboards.

4. Press the letter r to activate the display properties

5. on the Themes Page:
set to windows xp. To change press alt plus down arrow to open

6. Control Tab to the Desktop Tab Set background to bliss Set position stretch

7. Press Control Tab to Screen Saver Set to none]

8. Control Tab to Appearance Tab Set to Windows Classic Style Color Scheme
Windows Standard Font Size Normal

9. Control+tab to the settings tab, color: 16 bit resolution: 1024 by 768

10. Tab to okay and hit enter

Subject: Ideal System settings for JAWS

  Hi all

I am a new guy to this list and I have a question about my version of jaws
that I have just installed on a new windows box.

I Have used jaws since I was in the sixth grade, I am in college now, but I
never really had anyone go over with me the ideal system settings for the
program while I have constantly had trouble with it not reading stuff in win
explore and word every time I would have it on a newly installed system.
Anyway, could someone tell me the best system configurations for jaws to work.
I am having trouble with this on my new system.

I do remember that there were a bunch of places where i had to set to
standard view or win classic. Moreover, I remember one tech guy telling me
that windows XP has a driver preinstalled to run across two monitors. This
driver supposedly interfears with jaws and needs to be disabled. I wonder if
this could be my problem. Has anyone here heard of such a driver and would
they be able to tell me where it is?

By the way I am running jaws 7.0 with I believe a win XP educational edition.

  For what it matters.
