[Ilugc] using RPM packages in debian

You yourself have stated above that the other distros stopped
supporting these platforms because they lacked customer demand. I find
that the fact that Debian supports these no-demand platforms increases
its response time for software updates, new releases etc. since they
need to be tested on so many platforms.
well.. that's the difference between a business-centric and a
volunteer-driven systems. we are not working out demand-supply
equations here. the point is, there are still people who work on such
platforms, and debian caters to them...
So what. Other distro tools have found their way into Debian too. I
think dpkg-reconfigure uses newt (or whiptail?), which is a 100%
Redhat innovation.
nobody denies the involvement of redhat and other distros. the spirit
of free software lies in sharing code. every distro worth its name has
packages which have been accepted by other distros.
As someone else pointed out, RHEL, Fedora and Rawhide. Just the fact
that non-Debian users aren't as vocal or boisterous as Debian users
doesn't mean that Debian's the only one with all the real-world
features.
trouble is, not everyone can afford a RHEL... looks like you need to
be economically well off to get something stable. thankfully, Debian
doesn't have such preconditions.
