Sort of. But's that's my view. Your view may be quite the opposite,

Well, if you are saying Open Source does indeed mean non-profit (ie,
no revenues, no salaries, no expenses) then yes. The rest of us can
feel hunger.
http://www.dccalliance.org/ shows how people can make money from OSS
projects, and still contribute to OSS. People are making money using
Debian.
The fact here is that RH is wanted to make money, and started Fedora
et al as an afterthought for community participation, which is very
good. But Debian is built around the community, and people are now
making money off it.
4. Liberal organizational structure. Debian elects it's project leaders in
the same way we elect our Government.
Have you seen the kind of governments we get?
Right. You should belong to a dictatorial regime. There are a few
souls who believe that though democracy is out, it is for the best
interest of the lagest section of people, rather than serving most of
the interests of a single group (or company).
7. Debian tools - apt, dpkg, etc. - have found their way into other systems
Eg. fink.sf.net brings Debian's tools to Mac OSX.
So what. Other distro tools have found their way into Debian too. I
think dpkg-reconfigure uses newt (or whiptail?), which is a 100%
Redhat innovation.
Accepted. That is about Free Software, isn't it? Innovations are to be
shared. You needn't pat Red Hat for doing something they should be
doing anyway. For that matter, apt is available in RPM. In fact, the
first thing I do on any Fedora system is yum install apt.
8. Debian developers contribute extensively to upstream code.
So does other distros. In fact, Redhat goes several steps ahead - it
contributes code, pays the bills and employs several of the upstream
developers.
Good for them.
9. The release streams - stable, testing, unstable - rather than versions
ensures that "stable" really does undergo thorough real-world testing.
As someone else pointed out, RHEL, Fedora and Rawhide. Just the fact
that non-Debian users aren't as vocal or boisterous as Debian users
doesn't mean that Debian's the only one with all the real-world
features.
I just cannot comment. Nobody said Debian is the only have-it-all
distro. I just say I like it, let me like it even if you don't! Debian
has it's own problems, RH/Fedora has different problems.
Hmmm... Debian sounds more like a way of life (a religion?) to me.
Could be. And I pity you in the same way I pity people who consider
Sai Baba or Mata Amritanandamayi as their god or way of life or
whatever.
Poor comparison.
And guess this thread is going nowhere. I will not make further
posts. I am just happy that we all have the freedom to choose from a
wide variety of distros, package management systems and software. So,
the freedom wins!
