[Ilugc] swap needed or not ?

No. If you have the disk space, there is no harm in having a swap
partition of up to 2GB, though.

have heard reports saying that one does indeed need it, howmuch ever physical

Depends on the application you intend to run; and the load the box is
expected to support. Each case is unique, and should be dealt such.

does the thumb rule of 2 x PhysicalRam hold true here also ?
