That's completely untrue. Just shows you haven't even read the GPL.
Google uses (a lot of) GPL software. But they don't have to release their
source. They have recently announced that they will be releasing some of
their code, but that's by choice, not because they were *forced* to.
Only if you distribute binaries are you forced to release the corresponding
source code.
Please go read up and get a basic understanding of the GPL before you
assume that it is useless or whatever.
Redhat/IBM etc. have built up billion dollar businesses involving GPL'd
software. I think you'll agree that they are part of the software industry.
