EU is typically not that much cheaper than India. Laptops are
significantly cheaper in the USA and Singapore.
On the other hand, if you purchase the laptop in the UK and export it
overseas within 15 days of purchase, you are eligible for a VAT
refund. The VAT in the UK is 17.5% and the refund on a laptop costing
?600 can be significant.
Check out www.dixons.co.uk and www.argos.co.uk to sample the kind of
prices and models available on the UK high street. Also, look at
individual vendors' websites for their offerings too.
A laptop is more than just the CPU, RAM, HDD and other specs.
Ergonomics plays a huge role in deciding on a laptop. I suggest that
you purchase the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad laptops. Nothing comes close to
Thinkpads on usability, rugged construction and ergonomics. Ive known
Thinkpads to last 5 years without problems.
Well said. In my professional career, I have used laptops from (the
erstwhile) Compaq, Sony, Dell and IBM/Lenovo - nothing even remotely
comes close to the Thinkpads in terms of usability and ergonomics.
Windows users can possibly be flustered by the lack of the hot key,
but the laptops more than compensate for that with Access IBM and all
the other features IBM provides. I am now on a T43 which is simply
fantastic.
If you can afford it, go for the lighter Thinkpad T series.
The T43p is the latest, lightest and greatest.
