[PCB_FORUM] OT operating systemKen, I had a similar problem with XP losing communication with Win2k machines. I noticed that XP was running a new service on the network card called "QoS Packet Scheduler". This new service is supposed to manage the network bandwidth between the various applications running on your machine, however in practice it sometimes does not allocate any bandwidth at all. After reading some posts on the internet, I removed the service and have not had any network problems since. Caution: Check with your IT department before making any changes. There are a couple of patches from Microsoft, or on your XP CD. There is also a protocol in Win2K that isn't supported by XP. I can't think of the name now (maybe BAWI). I got it to work, ping licenses, etc., but my fix isn't supported, and I lose the server once in a while. I haven't figured out how to print reliably yet. Had it, and lost it. Someone else can probably shed more light on it. I can write to a PDF okay, so can print from somewhere else. Otherwise, I really like XP. This is on a laptop, so portability and security is the real issue. Bottom line, it depends on what your network requirement is.
