Walter,
Thanks for your feedback. I actually wasn’t thinking of requiring
function_table_group to be alphanumeric.
I was just wondering whether we should change the word “designator” in the text
of that area in the spec.
[cid:image001.png@01D8023F.C8AF3370]
because we use the same word for something totally different in the EMD portion
of the spec. which might
confuse the reader. Not a big deal, just wondering…
Thanks,
Arpad

Arpad,
First, I agree the to changes you suggest in your BIRD.
Regarding “function_table_group”, I note that it is optional, limited to 20
characters, and is just a string. I see no need for requiring
function_table_group to be alphanumeric.

Subject: [ibis-macro] Bird draft on alphanumeric pin names
Hello Everyone,
Attached is a BIRD draft on the topic of alphanumeric pin names under the [Pin]
keyword.
It turned out to be a lot simpler than I anticipated…
I didn’t include it in the attached draft, but I wonder whether we should
change the words
on pg. 55 a little bit. The highlighted word “designator” caught my eyes,
because on this
page it has a totally different meaning from the way we use it in the EMD
chapter.
[cid:image001.png@01D8023F.C8AF3370]
Here it is used in the context of the [Series Pin Mapping] keyword’s function
table group…
I wonder if this might confuse a newbie reader… Should we leave it as it is,
or should we
try to find a different wording to eliminate a potential source of confusion?
Thanks,
Arpad
