It indeed doesn't make much sense for dosfs, but it would be great for 
read-only file systems like ISO-9660. Since you can't change the on 
disk data anymore, BeOS could make use of the attributes (that could be 
put into some hidden file) as if it were BFS.
Of course, a similar feature could be added to dosfs, but it would be 
much more complex and less of use at the same time because of other 
systems messing with it (which is the only point in using FAT anyway).
