You missed my point. In your example above, the notification concept 
would be UI design, while the actual implementation (the blinking) is 
graphical design. That's what I meant with "they interact"; they even 
have to to make a good GUI.
Still, they are very distinct topics - you can be a professional in 
either category with little understanding of the other.
