Hello there,
while writing about the Media preferences for the User Guide, some questions
about the Setup tab of the Audio
Mixer came up. First and foremost, are all of them really needed? Personally
I haven't changed any from the
defaults, ever, I think.
I'll list all the options here and would be grateful if people in the know
would explain them, best with some
real world example a user can identify with. If anyone thinks an option may
be scrapped completely, please
say so, too.
* Attenuate mixer output by 3 dB (like BeOS R5) (default: on)
(Can we remove this option and just go with/without it?)
* Use non linear gain sliders (like BeOS R5) (default: on)
(Can we remove this option and just go with/without it?)
* Display balance control for stereo connections (default: off)
(I know what this does. Not a very useful option IMO...)
* Allow output channel remapping (default: off)
* Allow input channel remapping (default: off)
* Input gain controls represent 'Physical input channels' or 'Virtual out
channel' (default: 'Physical...')
* Resampling algorithm 'Linear interpolation' or 'Drop/repeat samples'
(default: Linear...')
* Refuse output format changes (default: on)
* Refuse input format changes (default: on)
One more thing. The context menu of the icon in the Deskbar tray has under
"Options" two checkable items:
"Control physical output" (default: off) and "Beep" (default: on). What do
those do?
Thanks for any input!
Regards,
Humdinger
