Well, in the past we have just scheduled the classes as a sort of placeholder
for the subjects they are taking and for specials. However, our district has
been working with "The District Management Council (DMC)" to assist with
developing master schedules. We were told we would be scheduling 'real time'
for elementary this year. Each grade level may have a different master schedule
with varing times for the subjects. For example all schools and grades will
have Language Arts/Reading for 90 min. But 1st grade may have it 1st period,
2nd 3rd period... Also, the 4th and 5th grades may or may not departmentalize.
If using actual times you can see how complicated this will get. We are
suspecting we will have to create a separate schedule structure for each grade
level for each school. We'll see how this works for us.

Subject: [gsis_admins] Elementary Scheduling
How do you currently schedule your elementary schools? Do you try to follow a
more true schedule like middle and high or are all periods and subjects just
place holders? What discussion, if any, has your district had in regards to
scheduling at elementary in connection with HB364? Has there been any
discussion about period attendance at the elementary level?
We are in the planning process and would like to have some input as to what
other districts may be thinking about doing.
