Yes, the ceiling height makes a difference, those figures were for an 10' ceiling and average insulation

Just think of the scores we could produce at some of the distributed computing projects if we kept that many boxes running for heat =D I wonder how that would compare in cost to traditional heating...

I remember a time at my previous employer when the air conditioning briefly died in the data center. The temperature went from ~68 F up to ~90 F in about 10 minutes.

As cool as that would be, it should really be measured in volume rather than area. Is that 18 sq ft for office space? I'm sure each computer would heat much less than 18 sq ft in a warehouse with high ceilings.

According to US government figures, the average computer and monitor produces enough heat to maintain a temperature of 70F in an area of about 18 sq ft with an ambient temperature of 0F.  We would need to run 66 computers and monitors to heat 1200 sq feet. Without the monitors we would need about 150 computers We could use fewer on warm days ;-)

1. WTH are rancors?
2. Computers running do put off a little bit of heat, but not enough to heat an office, also they will not be running 24/7.

But I do agree that SBW is the most ideal space. It is ready now, not some far off distant future that may never happen (LangLab), and it is still pretty convenient to get to!

A note about LangLab space, since in the photos it appears to be relatively smaller than the SB W&D, heating would not be an issue with computers running.

Either two of the locations looks good, but, SB W&D sounds like it is offering us a better deal.

Loved the "note the human entrance" caption. Are we going to be moving rancors or something through the overhead doors? Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'd also like to see the SB Warehouse space if it works out. Boss is back from vacation tomorrow so I should be able to get time off  as needed..
