Years ago I scanned in and edited a small French Dictionary. It was a huge
amount of work. I really appreciate all the work you have done on the O’Dónaill
dictionary, as I know just how much work you will have put into it.

Thanks Chaitríona, but it looks like Kevin can do the job better than I.
btw: I don't know if you have access to our eSpeak folder in Dropbox, but
there, you'll get something far better than WinGléacht.
I've scanned and edited Ó Dónaill, up to the letter S, and put it into Word Doc
format. I've also put into Collins Pocket English/Irish Irish/English, which
I've scanned and edited a while back. It'd be great if people used and shared
these liberally (and finished Ó Dónaill).
I followed closely the WinGléacht project since 1995 and got a copy of it in
2003. I found it to be inaccessible, and even though it was based on Ó
Dónaill, it only contained about a third of the material.
I went to Foras na Gaeilge in 2007 showing them my work on Ó Dónaill and
proposing that it be expanded into an online dictionary free of charge and with
audio. I got a grant, but hadn't the head to fill in further forms to further
the project. They put it out to tender in January 2008, and the result was
launched in January this year - www.focloir.ie

Department of Education. It was in hard copy format. I just wonder if it has
ever been updated and produced in computer format? You would not have to
translate all technical words if they already exist. I also have a dictionary
called WinGleacht, this is quite good on the more modern technical terms. I got
it from An Gúm, it costs €25.

Hi all,
IRonan and Cearbhall are setting us the noble task of translating the nvda
interface (in the Geailge locale) into irish.
The help needed can be put under two headings:
1. A translation of the actual computing terms (such as 'Heading', 'gigobyte'
and much more). As I understand it, Kevin has created an entire operating
system that uses the Irish language, so if you had the time, Kevin, your
collaboration and/or sharing would be invaluable.Cearbhall has set up a folder
in Dropbox/nvda/ called ga translation, and therein is to be found the
terminologies which need to be Gaelicised.
If al else fails, I'll have a go, but this stuff is for the most part highly
technical, and we probably don't need to re-invent the wheel if there's an
established vocabulary already extant.
2. Technical advice on the best way to implement this translation.
