[duxuser] Re: Criticism is a no-no on this list

Hi Alan,

O.K. I hold my hand up and say that I am just one of the official
Moderators of this list. I even have the power to even add or remove
people if needs be, but I'm happy to say that to date, I have never
removed anyone from any list.

Hardened Internet List users will know that general netiquette rules
apply here. We try to keep the list friendly, with a sense of humour,
but above all an informative resource to help all Duxbury users, so long
as it relates to the use of DBT right up to the end result - braille
output. (And even Moon)

For my own part, I'm not actually a Duxbury employee. I'm MD of the
U.K. main distributor, (Techno-Vision Systems Ltd) but one who believes
very much in product support - in addition to that provided by the
manufacturer.

For my sins, I also author DBT's Help files. If even only for that
reason, it is important for me to see the kind of questions that are
asked here, and the problems users face on a regular basis. I hope some
of that will be reflected in the Help files which will be released with
10.5 soon.

I also naturally have a vested interest in the actual development of DBT
as a software product, and coupled with the fact that we are both a
reseller, technical support centre, AND a braille producer ourselves, we
are as anxious as anyone here to see DBT develop.

We use DBT, and we sell DBT. I can't think of two better reasons to
stand up and be counted when it comes to requesting what goes into a new
version. But I don't have an exclusive on suggestions, and it is
largely thanks to the input from list members, that these ideas get fine
tuned prior to submitting them to the Duxbury development database.
Duxbury know this, do listen, and do prioritise accordingly.

As regards phrases not to be used - perhaps we need to be a little
tongue in cheek here. I could perhaps say that another phrase not be to
used on the list is, "Sorry to ask a stupid question, but...". To which
my Moderator's rule would be, "The only stupid question is the one you
do not ask!"

But I revert back to my mention of authoring Help files. If we have not
provided the answers there in Help, we have failed in what we set out to
achieve. But in the short term, we can provide the answers here. Even
for embosser issues.

I have been subscribed to this list for a while.
1. Catherine Thomas--Who are you, are you a moderator of the list?
2. Who are the moderators of this list?
3. If there are rules for its use, or phrases which are not to be used
could we have them posted so we all know.
I am not trying to be smart, I'm just confused.
Thanks, Alan

Dave,
"May I suggest that you reread" is a phraise not used on this list.
Having
been a lister for such a short time, I realize that you may not know
that.
Catherine
