Is there a knob for headphones volume on the unit? The pro40 has these next
to the jacks in the front for each headphone.
If you are using the line outs in the back for headphones, you'll need an
amp for the headphones.

Hello all who use the saffire pro.
I have a quick question.

I recorded my first vocal on the Saffire Pro and I notice that I cannot hear
the audio going in to sonar. The level coming back into my headphones is
much too low. I can hear what I recorded when I play it back though.

I turned input echo on on the track, but I'm hearing two voices in my
headphones as I sing which is rather distracting and annoying.

When I turn the input level up to where I can hear it I can tell that I'm
clipping because the vocal sounds very distorted. I didn't have this problem
with my FW 1884.

How do I hear my input without having to turn it up so loud that it
distorts? Is this something that has to be adjusted in the mix control? I
realized that I didn't even have to use it, because it worked right out of
the box.

Yes, I had him switch the driver to legacy, but he's got a VIA chipset, so
that adds to the complication. Still, it didn't work. This is why I think
it's a driver issue.
I personally only use the fw1884 as a pre-amp and control surface only. Got
mine at a great price, which is why I didn't go for a full macki universal.

Hmm. Did he install the firewire card with legacy drivers? Seem to
remember that you have to do that under Windows 7 when using the FW-1884.
Yes you are correct. That driver uninstaller really doesn't do a great job
at all :-( Ditched the FW-1884 here a long time a go.

No, that's the crazy part, I walked him through various procedures
yesterday, and the unit is working fine! It seems to us that it's a driver
issue, or OS wide issue, given other problems he's having on the system. At
least he's got the afire up and running.
Regarding the FW1884, it might be driver related, he reinstalled the drivers
for it to see if that would help. If there's something I know is that Tascam
has the worst driver uninstaller in the history of drivers. It literally
leave dozens of entries in the registry, and then, when you reinstall, it
doesn't override those keys, but because windows most likely will change the
device ID to avoid confusion, you get such problems, where keys point to
non-existent keys or use a different device ID, and the whole thing just
craps. The worst part is that removing these registry keys is a very
delicate issue, specially if you have more than 1 ASIO device installed.
So, to anyone following this thread, if you own an FW1884 and are having
issues, please let reinstalling drivers be your last option! It will most
likely introduce and not solve any problems.

Much thanks to DJX and everyone who chimed in on this issue. Your help is
greatly appreciated.

I don't know what's going on with my FW, but I got the Saffire Pro up and
running and Sonar is working just fine with it. I don't know why Sonar isn't
working any more with the FW, but will work with the Safire Pro. My
Projects are even loading faster now.

Thanks again for all your help.

Is that the same card you had on your XP machine? If you are using built-in
firewire try switching; those Asus motherboards were buggy back in the first
generation/x58 chipset. Here's hoping you have the revised and not the
original x58. The asus boards I tested then had EMI issues like crazy!

The reason I'm suspecting that it could be the card or the cable is that
ever since I got this new machine, my FW 1884 has been acting strange.
Sometimes the audio would disappear even when I'm just practicing the piano.

The power went out yesterday while I was working and the music was playing.
I have not been able to get any audio out of the FW 1884 since then.

Sometimes the audio drivers show up and sometimes they don't. Either way
know audio is coming through.

Is the card an external or part of the motherboard? When did this start
happening? Are you using a 4 pin firewire cable?

I followed all the steps. Now, none of the audio drivers are showing up in
the audio options menu. When I launch sonar I get a message saying that
they're silent buses detected. When I try to add The FW 1884 as a control
surface, there are no options for inputs and outputs.

I am beginning to wonder if something may be wrong with my FireWire cable
or my FireWire port on my computer. I am wondering how can I test to see if
my FireWire card is going bad or my FireWire cable.

Do this:
1. Turn off computer and fw1884.
2. Turn on fw1884 only.
3. Press the mixer button (second from the left at top right row),
then press ctrl+shift+F8 (F8 is second button on second row from the
top on right). Then press ctrl+Shift+F10 to set everything to unity
gain (F10 is last button on second row at top right panel).
4. GO to MIDI mode (Third button on the top row on top right panel),
press
ctrl+Shift+F8 to reset MIDI.
5. Turn off fw1884 and wait a few seconds.
6. Once you've waited, turn fw1884 back on, and turn computer back on.
7. Now check in device manager and see if the fw1884 shows up under
sound, or if it even shows up under other devices.

Another thing you might wanna try while the computer and fw1884 are
off is to reseat the firewire cable on both ends.

Now for some strange reason, none of the drivers are showing up. I
mean the audio drivers. When I load a project I get a message saying
that audio drivers are missing. All of the audio drivers have been
checked. Sent from my iPhone

Have you selected proper outs? Have you switched driver types in
Sonar? Can you get windows or any other program to play out of it?
BTW, the control surface part of it has nothing to do with the audio.

Hey guys,
My FW 1884 is not working. The faders move when I load projects, but
know audio is coming through my monitors.

I have deleted and added it again in the list of control surfaces. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled both the fermwhere and the sonar
plugin
drivers.
I'm trying to remember how to reset it, but I can't remember the key
combination. I know it's control shift and another key, but I don't
know which one.

I don't want to put out the money for another control surface, so I
can use any input I can get.

Regarding dimension Pro, I am waiting until I hit a lull in my work
flow and then I'll try to reinstall it. An update will be coming when
I
reinstall.

For now, any ideas on my issue with the FW 1884?
