Did it do anything? Also, can you even use the unit in standalone mode?

Did you try port 2 for the firewire, see if that helps?

Those units are pretty solid, hard to mess up, but there are a few glitches,
that if you do happen to be unlucky enough to perform 1 of those, the
machine will die in a split second. The firewire chip/controller has 1 such
glitch, and so do the pre-amps; never insert or remove a mic cable while
phantom power is on; some machines can handle that and survive, but
apparently some versions of the fw1884 are not so lucky! Same thing goes for
unplugging or plugging the firewire cable while the unit is on. It kills the
firewire controller.

See if you can get it working in standalone mode, if so I might have an idea
to test the chipsets.

No worries, the buttons on my FW are brail labeled. As far as I can tell, I
performed all the steps correctly.

Thanks much for your help.

Hey Neville, a quick correction: I think I reversed the MIDI and
standalone/mixer buttons on the fw1884 when giving you the description; the
third button on top row is standalone/mixer, the second is MIDI mode.

Just wanted to point that out just in case you were stil trying it.

Sorry for the mixup ;)

I have a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 I have never used. Now I think this may be
the time to set it up and give it a go. I can't find the CD that it came
with, but I downloaded the mix control from the Focusrite website. I thought
I heard that there are Hotspots sets for it. Is this true? I also looked for
the driver on the Focusrite website, but couldn't find it. Does it need a
driver or is the mix control all it needs?

In sound options in control panel. Or if you use winAmp, go to plug-ins,
output, direct sound out, configure, and in the devices list select the
fw1884 1/2 pair.
You can also do the same in VLC, Media Player, iTunes etc, though the way to
do it varies from program to program.

I have never tried to get windows to play out of it. How would I test it in
this way?

CTRL+Shift+F8 in stand alone mode (second button) will reset it.
Have you selected proper outs? Have you switched driver types in Sonar? Can
you get windows or any other program to play out of it?
BTW, the control surface part of it has nothing to do with the audio.

Hey guys,
My FW 1884 is not working. The faders move when I load projects, but know
audio is coming through my monitors.

I have deleted and added it again in the list of control surfaces. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled both the fermwhere and the sonar plugin drivers.
I'm trying to remember how to reset it, but I can't remember the key
combination. I know it's control shift and another key, but I don't know
which one.

I don't want to put out the money for another control surface, so I can use
any input I can get.

Regarding dimension Pro, I am waiting until I hit a lull in my work flow and
then I'll try to reinstall it. An update will be coming when I reinstall.

For now, any ideas on my issue with the FW 1884?
