I wish I could answer your questions about the firewire port but I really
don't know. I did reseat the cable and nothing has changed. I did try to
plug the cable into another port, but for some reason, the cable isn't going
in.

O man! You didn't mention power outage!
Try this, turn on computer but not fw1884.
Wait till windows loads. For this test, make sure that your windows sound is
on, and that you don't have the scheme set to no sounds, such that when you
plug in something for example, windows wil notify you with the insert
hardware sound.

After a minute or so, turn on fw1884. Wait about 3-5 minutes, during those
minutes, do you hear the insert hardware sound from the computer? If so, how
long after you've presss the power button on the fw1884. Also, does the
sound happen once, twice, do you get the insert hardware followed by the
remove hardware sounds?
We're looking for malfunctions in the firewire controller.
A known bug in some fw1884 units after certain mishaps (see my other
message) is that the firewire controller takes a minute or so to boot after
the unit is on (normally this is suppose to happen instantly), which means
the hardware has become falty; the controller can be replaced, but unless
you know somebody who is good with a sottering tool and PCB boards, you
might unfortunately wanna start researching other alternatives.

Also, in the hopes of helping you get to the bottom of this, I don't think
you answered my other question, is this a built in port on the motherboard,
or is it an external card. If it's not built-in, is it PCI or PCIE? Does it
require internal power like some older cards did? Any info you can provide
might help.
Check in device manager, does your controller list under 1394 controllers?
If so, press enter on it, does windows report it to be working properly?

I'm going to go ahead and assume you are on a power conditioner, or at least
surge protectors? These sudden power losses can cause big time issues even
if you are protected, but when the power comes back is usually the bigger
problem. That's why battery Backup UPS is a good investment, even if outages
are not normal where you live. (not just Neville, but anyone else reading
this). It at least gives you time to properly shut down the equipment,
specially if you own any tube amp or pre-amp.

@Neville, I might try and give you a call later if my schedule frees up a
bit, maybe we can figure more out over the phone.

Regards, D!J!X!

The reason I'm suspecting that it could be the card or the cable is that
ever since I got this new machine, my FW 1884 has been acting strange.
Sometimes the audio would disappear even when I'm just practicing the piano.

The power went out yesterday while I was working and the music was playing.
I have not been able to get any audio out of the FW 1884 since then.

Sometimes the audio drivers show up and sometimes they don't. Either way
know audio is coming through.

Is the card an external or part of the motherboard? When did this start
happening? Are you using a 4 pin firewire cable?

I followed all the steps. Now, none of the audio drivers are showing up in
the audio options menu. When I launch sonar I get a message saying that
they're silent buses detected. When I try to add The FW 1884 as a control
surface, there are no options for inputs and outputs.

I am beginning to wonder if something may be wrong with my FireWire cable
or my FireWire port on my computer. I am wondering how can I test to see if
my FireWire card is going bad or my FireWire cable.

Do this:

2. Turn on fw1884 only.
3. Press the mixer button (second from the left at top right row),
then press ctrl+shift+F8 (F8 is second button on second row from the
top on right). Then press ctrl+Shift+F10 to set everything to unity
gain (F10 is last button on second row at top right panel).
4. GO to MIDI mode (Third button on the top row on top right panel),
press
ctrl+Shift+F8 to reset MIDI.
5. Turn off fw1884 and wait a few seconds.
6. Once you've waited, turn fw1884 back on, and turn computer back on.
7. Now check in device manager and see if the fw1884 shows up under
sound, or if it even shows up under other devices.

Another thing you might wanna try while the computer and fw1884 are
off is to reseat the firewire cable on both ends.

Now for some strange reason, none of the drivers are showing up. I
mean the audio drivers. When I load a project I get a message saying
that audio drivers are missing. All of the audio drivers have been
checked. Sent from my iPhone

CTRL+Shift+F8 in stand alone mode (second button) will reset it.
Have you selected proper outs? Have you switched driver types in
Sonar? Can you get windows or any other program to play out of it?
BTW, the control surface part of it has nothing to do with the audio.

Hey guys,
My FW 1884 is not working. The faders move when I load projects, but
know audio is coming through my monitors.

I have deleted and added it again in the list of control surfaces. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled both the fermwhere and the sonar
plugin
drivers.
I'm trying to remember how to reset it, but I can't remember the key
combination. I know it's control shift and another key, but I don't
know which one.

I don't want to put out the money for another control surface, so I
can use any input I can get.

Regarding dimension Pro, I am waiting until I hit a lull in my work
flow and then I'll try to reinstall it. An update will be coming when
I
reinstall.

For now, any ideas on my issue with the FW 1884?
