Hey David!

I've just been thru the same thing, but was fortunate enough, to have a 
professional fix it for me, but just one salutory word of advice...

If you can at all help it, never run any internet crap on your audio 
computer, especially a web-browser, apart from registering software etc.

That's how I got screwed in the first place, and it was a very long drawn 
out slow death for my OS and the rest of my DAW!
